Tsavo West national park and Tsavo East national park form the largest protected area in Kenya and one of the largest parks in the world covering an area of 22,000 square kilometers, Tsavo national park is also one of the oldest national parks in Kenya.
Tsavo national park is split into Tsavo East and Tsavo West by a railway going from Mombasa to the interior of Kenya, the park gets its name from the Tsavo River which runs across the park and is one of the major sources of water.
Tsavo is popularly known for the notorious Man Eaters which were depicted in The Man- Eaters of Tsavo and The Ghost and the Darkness movies, The Man Eaters of Tsavo referred to a pair of Maneless male lions attacked and killed over 35 railway construction workers at Tsavo National park back in 1898. The horrific attacks almost brought a halt the construction works of the Mombasa – Lake Victoria railway, Lt. Col Patterson who was in charge of the Bridge Building project at the Tsavo River killed the pair of man – eating lions which provided some sort of relief to the construction workers.
